From Damaged Waves to Healthy Beach Hair: The Story Behind Our Nourishing Sea Salt Spray Formula

Sea salt sprays are a popular hair styling product for achieving textured, beachy waves - whether you live by the ocean or not! However, some traditional sea salt sprays can be harsh and drying on the hair, leading to damage and breakage over time.

We formulated our sea salt spray in a way that not only allows us to add less salt by using other texturizing ingredients that are actually good for your hair (hello aloe vera juice!) we even include elements that are designed to nourish, strengthen and protect the hair.

“Living on an island in the Pacific Northwest means we know a thing or two about how to rock that 'salty hair, don't care' look, but we've also seen the havoc daily dips can wreak on once luscious locks.

This is why we set out to create a salt spray that goes above and beyond. What we have developed after lots of time, research and hard work is a spray that's the perfect balance of nourishing and texturizing. Just right.” - Founder, Amy Hall

Each of the ingredients chosen have unique benefits for the hair. Here’s an ingredient roundup and explanation of their properties.

Aloe vera is a natural moisturizer that soothes and hydrates the hair and scalp. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, and E, which promotes healthy hair growth and prevents damage. Aloe vera also contains enzymes that can help to remove dead skin cells from the scalp, which can improve overall scalp health.

Oat proteins are a natural source of amino acids that strengthen the hair and improve its elasticity. They also help to repair damage to the hair cuticle and this smoothing of the hair shaft which not only helps to prevent breakage and split ends, it also reduces frizz, leaving the hair feeling soft and silky.

Silk amino acids can help to improve hair elasticity, prevent breakage, and reduce tangling. They also protect the hair from damage caused by heat styling and environmental factors.

Algae extract is a natural ingredient that is rich in vitamins and minerals, including iron, calcium, and vitamins A, B, C, and E. It helps to nourish and strengthen the hair, improving its overall health and appearance. Algae extract can also provide protection from damage caused by UV radiation and environmental pollutants.

Broccoli seed oil is a lightweight oil that moisturizes and protects the hair without leaving it feeling greasy or weighed down. It is rich in antioxidants, which aids in protecting the hair from damage caused by free radicals.

Babassu oil is a natural oil that is derived from the seeds of the babassu palm tree. It is rich in fatty acids which moisturize and nourish the hair. Babassu oil is also known for its antimicrobial properties, which can help to soothe and protect the scalp.

Botanical complexes that contain plant extracts, such as peppermint, horsetail, nettle, melissa, and yucca, can provide a range of benefits for the hair. Peppermint oil can help to stimulate the scalp and promote healthy hair growth, while horsetail extract is rich in silica, which can help to strengthen the hair. Nettle extract can help to reduce inflammation and irritation on the scalp, while melissa extract has soothing properties that helps to calm the scalp. Yucca extract helps to remove excess oil and buildup from the scalp, leaving the hair feeling clean and refreshed.

TLDR: these ingredients provide a range of benefits for the hair, including improved moisture retention, strengthened hair fibers, and protection against damage and enhanced scalp health.
